Excelsior International School has established a Board of Governors, whose primary roles include enhancing school standards, setting strategic direction and ensuring that the delivery of education is suitable to the needs, ages and abilities of the students. Members of the Board of Governors will serve a 3-year term and will be eligible for re-appointment to further term(s).

The composition of the Board of Governors is made up of academic experts, who are committed to the promotion of high standards of educational achievement. Although board members are not paid member of the School, ex-officio such as Principal and designated corporate or management employees may be invited to join Board meetings and discussions, for the purpose of providing technical advice and assistance.

While the Board of Governors is responsible for the objectives, overall strategic direction and policy, the day-to-day management of the School rests firmly with the Principal and the school staff.

Mr Tan Tee How

Mr Tan Tee How is the Chairman of the Board of Governors of Excelsior International School and brings with him more than 30 years of service in public service in Singapore. As Chairman, Mr Tan sets for Excelsior a vision for its transformation into a top British brand international school in the region.

Koh Chin Nguang Bob

Mr Koh Chin Nguang Bob

Mr Koh Chin Nguang Bob is the Executive Director of Excelsior International School. Graduating from the National University of Singapore with First-class Honours in Chemistry and a master degree in Education from Harvard University, Mr Koh served in education for more than 30 years. For the last 20 years, Mr Koh has assumed senior leadership positions in top schools such as Raffles Institution and Hwa Chong International School in Singapore, as well as in the Ministry of Education, Singapore.

Dr Koh Thiam Seng

Dr Koh Thiam Seng

Dr Koh Thiam Seng is a Member of the Board of Governors of Excelsior International School. Dr Koh brings with him more than 28 years of experience in education. Prior to this, Dr Koh was Associate Dean at the Office of Education Research and Associate Professor of Natural Sciences and Science Education at the National Institute of Education. Aside from the academia, Dr Koh also assumed many senior positions in the Ministry of Education, Singapore. He was also the Principal of St. Joseph’s Institution, Singapore (2009-2015) and Chief Executive Officer (2015–2017) at St. Joseph’s Institution International School.

Kathryn Lui

Ms Kathryn Lui

Ms Kathryn Lui is a Member of the Board of Governors of Excelsior International School. Ms Lui brings more than 30 years of educational experience to Excelsior. Prior to this, Ms Lui held various teaching and leadership appointments in Anglo-Chinese Junior College and Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) in Singapore. She was also the Principal of Anglo-Chinese School (Junior) (2007-2015). From 2016 to 2018 she was a director of a childcare centre. Ms Lui has received various teaching and service awards throughout her career with the Ministry of Education and at the National Institute of Education.

Edmund Lim

Mr Edmund Lim

Mr Edmund Lim is a Member of the Board of Governors of in Excelsior International School. He brings with him more than 20 years to Excelsior. Prior to this, he was the Group Academic Director of an international school in Bangkok and also served as a school leader in three schools in Singapore. He has experience teaching in the National Institute of Education, Gifted Education Programme and schools. Mr Lim has conducted workshops and talks for government officials, school leaders and educators from overseas and Singapore.

Tunku Temenggong of Johor attends [...]

The Tunku Temenggong of Johor, Tunku Idris Iskandar Al-Haj Ibni Sultan Ibrahim graced the Installation dinner of the 6th President of the Rotary Club of Johor Bahru Sentral today (27th September).

His Highness is the Royal Patron of the club.

During the ceremony, Mr Vijendran Vengadesan was installed as the new president.

HH Tunku Idris was presented with a cheque for RM 30,000 in aid of the Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation.

The money was raised from proceeds during the Run For Hope campaign organised by the club recently in partnership with Excelsior International School.

Some 80 rotarians attended the gala dinner, which also included singing and dancing performances.

Excelsior International School Interact [...]

The EIS interact club has been serving and giving back to the community since its inception by sponsoring activities such as the Run for Hope which primary objective is to raise funds for the Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation ("Foundation")

Excelsior International School's Interact Club is a service club for students ages 12 - 18 whose primary purpose is to give students a chance to make a difference in the world. EIS Interact club is sponsored by Rotary Club Johor Bahru Sentral. Rotary International is an international service organisation whose stated human rights purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and to advance goodwill and peace around the world. It is a secular organisation open to all people regardless of race, colour, creed, religion, gender, or political preference. There are 34,282 member clubs worldwide. 1.2 Million Individuals called Rotarians have joined these clubs.

This year, as part of our community service program, EIS Interact Club in support of Rotary Club Johor Bahru Sentral will be launched the "Plant a Tree Campaign" which is meant to instill an environment loving culture among our youths. This project involves Interact Club members and primary students from the Excelsior International School, and 16 orphans from the SHAFAR Welfare Organisation (Pertubuhan Kebajikan Shafar), Johor Bahru.

The launch was held on the 23rd September 2016 by His Highness Tunku Idris Iskandar Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, Tunku Temenggong Johor during the Rotary Club Johor Bahru Sentral 5th Installation Dinner at Doubletree, by Hilton, Johor Bahru, Johor. EIS staff and students were in attendance where EIS Interact Club president Lim Ee Lyn helped launch the event. In addition to launching the project EIS also had both primary and secondary students perform a song for all in attendance.

The campaign is aimed to be the biggest community tree-planting and nature care event in Johor. Coordinated by Rotary Club Johor Bahru Sentral and proudly sponsored by Asia Plantation Capital, these are special days for all to help out by planting and caring for native trees and shrubs to improve the environment in which they live in.

EIS is proud that students from our school in both our Primary section and students from our Interact club are teaming up with students from Shafar orphanage to participate in this important community service endeavour.

Mid-Autumn Festival 2015

In the final week of September Excelsior International School in Johor celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Students enjoyed a 'week-long Chinese riddles' competition, presentations by their peers on various aspects of the festival, student-produced videos and a Mooncake tasting session.

This full week of activities, information sharing and fun challenges based in, and coming from, the Mandarin lessons, ensured that all students were able to become aware of, and celebrate this annual Chinese event.

Curriculum Information Sessions

Excelsior International school staged the first of their Curriculum Information Sessions for the academic year on Saturday 5th September 2015. At 9.30am, the Head of Primary and Early Years, Mr Tony Blacklock, with assistance from his specialist teachers, gave an overview of the curriculum for Nursery to Grade 5 at Excelsior. Parents and students were then invited to visit the individual homerooms for further presentations specific to each age group. At 11.00am the Head of Secondary and High School, Mr Ian Stanley gave a presentation regarding the curriculum and the study strands all the way through Grades 6 to 12. After a short genera question-and-answer session, students and parents then had the opportunity to meet with individual subject teachers.

The I-Quiz

Excelsior International School hosted 48 teams for the Johor State round of the Rotary International Interactors I-Quiz on Saturday 22nd August 2015. This is a general knowledge and 'knowledge of Malaysia' quiz for students aged from 12 to 18 Years and leads onto national and international finals. A crowd of over 300 participants and supporters enjoyed a wonderful morning of friendly competition.

Academic Year 2015-16 [...]

On 15th August students and parents packed the auditorium at the Excelsior International for an Orientation/Information session prior to the school beginning on Monday 17th August.

Following a welcome/welcome back from School Principal, Mr Julian Leah, the Chairman of Excelsior, Mr Ng Boon Yew, presented a review of the previous year and outlined the developments put in place and the plans for the forthcoming academic year.

Following the welcome back to returning teachers and the introduction of the new teachers, students and parents were then able to visit the homerooms and classrooms to find out more from the teachers about the exciting year ahead!
